Originating in the French Courts during the 17th Century, the first record of an English sterling silver sauce boat is from around 1690, and was designed with two handles and two spouts. During the 18th Century the design changed to the more recognisable form we know today, and this has remained a popular addition to the dining table ever since. Art Deco, Arts & Crafts and Designer Silversmith examples are highly sought after.
