Hallmarked in London in 1838 and 1840 by Benjamin Smith III, this striking, Victorian, Antique Sterling Silver Meat Dish and Matching Cover, features shaped reed and shell borders, engraved coats of arms to one side and a double crest to the other, and a cast finial which is a representation of one of the engraved crests. The meat dish was hallmarked in 1840, and the cover, which fits well, was hallmarked in 1838. The meat dish and cover together measure 12"(30.5cm) tall, by 24.5"(63cm) wide, by 18.5"(47cm) deep, and weigh an impressive 220 troy ounces. The crests and coat of arms are likely that of Horatio Granville Murray-Stewart.
