First recorded during the late 17th Century, the silver brandy saucepan has changed little in form since the earliest known examples, however later pieces tend to be larger in size. During the middle of the 19th century they were often made with a warming stand which supported the saucepan above a central spirit heater. Early examples in good condition are rare, and highly sought after by collectors.
